Our Story

In October 2003, while still an intern architect, Catherine M. Svercl began this company as a design and drafting company, including 3D renderings.

Beginnings

In 6th Grade, Cathy's teacher gave her class a project to think about what they would do with their lives, including drawing up the house they wanted to live in. That is when Cathy's goal to become a residential architect began.

Education

Cathy attended Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, receiving a 5-year professional Bachelor of Architecture degree. Along the way, she took a semester at RMIT in Melbourne, Australia, as well as a semester at the Washington Alexandria Architecture Center, outside Washington, DC.

Internship

For over 6 years, Cathy worked for several architecture firms in South Carolina, Maryland, and Florida, in order to earn her NCARB certificate. She has worked on single-family custom homes, additions, and remodels, as well as on condos, townhouses, shopping centers, commercial interior remodels, and churches. To view some samples from her internship work, click here.

Today

In 2006, Cathy completed her Architectural Registration Exams, thereby establishing herself as a Registered Architect. In June, she received her license in Virginia, and in October she received her reciprocal license in Florida.

Cathy is a member of Women in Architecture - Tampa Bay (Steering Committee), Florida Green Building Coalition Inc. (FGBC Certifying Agent and Homes Committee member), Dunedin High School Academy of Architectural Design and Building Technology Advisory Board, the Universal Design Alliance, and CORA - Congress of Residential Architecture. She has previously volunteered with GreenHOME non-profit group and Washington, DC Habitat for Humanity.

A Building Should Reflect:

the client's true needs and wants

not society's, not the re-sale value

the local environment

overhangs, cross-ventilation, deep porches

the client's safety

hurricane retrofitting

long-term cost savings

energy efficient appliances, correct locations of windows, better use of insulation, solar installations

quality materials

weighing the pros and cons of each, using "green" and sustainable materials when available

Beauty

windows and rooms align with views, proportions of individual items work with the size of the house, timeless style

Giving Back

The 1% Solution - because the chain is only as strong as its weakest link
