Shotgun Home
Unbuilt In-Fill Project for New Orleans
Prototypical shotgun home in traditional neighborhood of New Orleans, LA. Shotgun houses are widely found in the South, a form of African American architecture. This exercise looked at the whole blocks of homes that have been left vacant or abandoned since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Design includes a deep useable front porch, raised floor, large side windows for light, wide side hallway used for small or separate rooms, and street parking with alley at rear. It uses fibercement siding and painted black metalwork inside and out. Main floor bedroom and bath, additional bedrooms and baths upstairs.
